President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday told Nigerians to resist the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019.
He said this while submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms purchased for him by the Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors’ Network (NCAN).
Buhari submitted the forms at the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
In his remarks, Buhari said “I here in person among friends and colleagues to put my name forward to my party, the All Progressives Congress, seeking nomination to contest the Presidential Elections next year, 2019.
“Fellow party members, I am taking this step with all humility, sense of responsibility and an unquestionable desire to serve and protect the interests of all Nigerians.
“I am very grateful to those dozens of organizations who have joined together and contributed funds to purchase these forms. I assure them and the rest of Nigerians that, if nominated and if elected, I shall continue to serve you to the best of my ability.
“Let me today appeal to party members not to be complacent but to prepare, strategize and win in 2019 elections. We must not allow those who brought the country to its knees from 1999 to 2015 to come and take us back.”

Chelsea goalkeeping coach, Christophe Lollichon has said that France and Tottenham goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris is overrated.
Lollichon believes that Lloris should be replaced as France’s number one shot-stopper.
Lloris missed his country’s international friendly game against Germany on Tuesday and Paris Saint-Germain keeper, Alphonse Areola kept a clean sheet when given a chance to impress.
Lollichon said that Areola is more than good enough to be the national team’s first choice rather than Lloris.
“People live in a dream world when it comes to Lloris a bit too much, but for me Areola is above,” The Daily Mail quote Lollichon as saying.
“Against Germany, he was positionally very good and in his ability to come out. It’s the basis of all goalkeepers, but not everyone does it well. He’s pro-active in his anticipation.
“For me, he’s the best current French goalkeeper. He has all the characteristics to be France’s number one.
“The height, ability with ball in his feet, wingspan, his diving ability, footwork. He’s the most adapted to how they play.”
Lollichon recently told French radio station RMC that Areola was keen to join Chelsea before the Blues recently brought in Kepa Arrizabalaga to replace Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday warned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu not to allow the Presidency to use him to execute a plot to frustrate the conduct of credible 2019 elections and push for illegal tenure elongation for President Muhammadu Buhari.
The party said it was aware that the mooting of postponement of the already scheduled polls by the INEC Chairman, “Is a product of series of clandestine meetings between his commission and the APC on ways to frustrate the 2019 elections, having realized that there is no hope for President Buhari.”
The PDP in a statement also said “Nigerians and the international community have also noted plans by INEC to frustrate credible elections. Including its stiff opposition to the amendment of the Electoral Act by the National Assembly to check APC rigging plans in addition to its exposed collaborations with INEC to manipulate the voters register, enrol underage voters and secretly creating 30,000 illegal polling centres in certain remote areas from where it plans to allocate fictitious votes to the APC.
The statement continued, “Nigerians may recall that the PDP had earlier alerted of the plot by the Presidency to enmesh the 2019 elections into a needless controversy by deliberately delaying the presentation of the election budget to the National Assembly until the time the parliament was proceeding on annual recess.
“Ostensibly to ensure that the election does not escape controversy, President Buhari demanded that the fund be taken from already approved budget for lawmakers’ constituency votes, despite entreaties by well-meaning Nigerians for a fresh budget for the elections.
“Seeing that Nigerians are standing shoulder to shoulder with the PDP to resist and dismantle their rigging machinery, the APC and Buhari Presidency are now trying to use INEC to frustrate the elections and cause crisis in our country.” While insisting it would reject any move for a postponement of the polls, the party maintained that “The 2019 election must hold as scheduled.”

A former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, said a gap in communication between the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, and the owner of Fresh FM, Ibadan, Yinka Ayefele, caused the demolition of the latter’s property.

“And I want to tell you that, that has been resolved. And I want to put on record and I am not lying, I will tell you the truth. I own a radio station in Oyo State too. Similar letter was written to the radio station and it was submitted to me.”
PREMIUM TIMES reported the demolition and the eventual peace meeting between Mr Ayefele and Governor Ajimobi where the latter promised the musician would be adequately compensated.
Speaking on why he wants to return as governor, Mr Alao-Akala said he his only answering the call of residents of the state.
“I came back because people want me to come back. And I came back also because of our party to win Oyo State. I don’t want that Oyo State to go to any other party and I had said it when I was declaring my ambition that it is because we don’t want to toy with our chances at all.”

Ecuador declared a state of emergency in three provinces due to an unusually high volume of Venezuelan migrants [Jose Mafia/via Getty Images]

Ecuador has declared a state of emergency in three northern states after a large influx of migrants from crisis-ridden Venezuela entered the country via Colombia.
The move is intended to help establish the infrastructure to support the new arrivals, who do not have humanitarian refugee status in Ecuador, as they do in some other Latin American countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility said in a statement on Wednesday that in recent days, the number of Venezuelans arriving daily had risen to 4,200 and a contingency plan is needed to assist them.
Santiago Chavez, the vice minister of human mobility, said the plan would "give an effective and forceful response in benefit of the preservation of those entering Ecuadorian territory".
As part of the contingency plan, extra immigration officials will be hired and more doctors, social workers and psychologists will be sent to the Carchi, Pinchincha and El Oro provinces along Ecuador's border with Colombia, to assist sick and vulnerable migrants.
International aid organisations will also assist in the efforts by providing tents, water and food.
This is the first time a state of emergency has been declared in these provinces. It will stay in place until at least the end of August.

Special measures

A number of Latin American countries are introducing special measures to cope with migration from Venezuela, which is led by President Nicolas Maduro and is suffering from ongoing political, social and economic crises.
In August, former Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, granted 440,000 Venezuelan refugees temporary residency permits, which allow them to study, work and get medical care in Colombia.
Brazil declared a state of emergency in May and briefly closed its northern border with Venezuela on Tuesday.
Argentina has taken in some 31,167 Venezuelans under a law that allows foreign nationals to remain in the country "when there are exceptional reasons of a humanitarian nature".

Uncertainty in the country

Meanwhile, Venezuela's pro-Maduro Constituent Assembly revoked the immunity of opposition lawmakers Julio Borges and Juan Requesens for allegedly masterminding what the president called an assassination attempt against him.
Requesens was seized by intelligence officers overnight, while Venezuela's Supreme Court ordered Borges' arrest.
Maduro said in a broadcast that Borges was living in neighbouring Colombia.
A drone loaded with explosives on Saturday detonated near a military event where Maduro was giving a speech. The president escaped unharmed but seven people were wounded.
Attorney General Tarek William Saab said moves were being made to put Requesens on trial, while Maduro is pressing Colombia and the US to extradite opposition figures, including Borges.
Borges, who on Tuesday attended the swearing-in of Colombia's new president, Ivan Duque, called Maduro's accusation against him "a farce."
Translation: Nicolas Maduro you have accused me of the economic war, of the cash crisis, of the hyperinflation, of the generalised scarcity.. And now of the farce of the attack?  You do not cheat anyone. You are the only one to blame for the tragedy of the country, Borges wrote in Twitter.

.@NicolasMaduro me has acusado de la guerra económica, de la crisis del efectivo, de la hiperinflación, de la escasez generalizada, de trata de blancas ¿Y ahora de la farsa del atentado? No engañas a nadie. El único culpable de la tragedia del país eres tú.

These events came as Venezuela's economy continues to struggle, the International Monetary Fund projects inflation could top 1 million percent this year.

The currency has fallen 99.99 percent against the US dollar on the black market since Maduro came to power in April 2013.
Many Venezuelans are choosing to leave their country as the recession is now entering its fifth year.
Maduro blames the crisis on an economic war led by opposition leaders with the help of Washington, which last year levied several rounds of sanctions against his administration.

14-year-old Ethan Sonneborn who isn't old enough to vote, let alone drive, is running for governor's seat in Vermont, US.

According to NDTV, the Vermont Democrat is taking advantage of a quirk in the constitution of the bucolic northeastern state that imposes no age limit on running for governor.
Candidates only have to have lived in Vermont for at least four years, and Sonneborn has lived in Vermont for 14-years.

In a recent televised gubernatorial forum, the teenager said: "I think Vermonters should take me seriously because I have practical progressive ideas, and I happen to be 14, not the other way around. I think that my message and my platform transcend age."

Ethan will face a crowded field of adult rivals in Tuesday's Democratic gubernatorial primary.
His rivals include Christine Hallquist, running to become America's first transgender governor, James Ehlers, a Navy veteran and environmentalist, and Brenda Siegel, the executive director of a dance festival.
